Prayer is a very powerful weapon and tool. Satan doesn't like when we pray to God to come and help us, because he knows that God will help us. Prayer can change lives or heal the most chronic of diseases.
I am currently reading a book called "No Longer A Slumdog". It's about the children of Asia who are at the bottom of the social status pyramid. Even though discrimination is prohibited, it is still happening. There are police officers always around, but if they were to protect the dalits (the lowest of the social status) they may get in trouble by the more powerful ranks. The children are going hungry and most will always be in debt to the people they work for. They can't go to school because they are poor, they don't know how to play because they are expected to work, and they are in need of Jesus because they don't go to church or have religious freedom.
Most of the stories have happy endings because the man who wrote the book has started a school for the dalits. The learn of Jesus as they progress in the program. There are still lots of children in the streets and slums of Asia that need our prayers. Lets keep them in our daily prayers!

Modesty: Not Just Something On The Outside
Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. 1 Timothy 2:9-10
The dictionary defines modesty as the quality of being modest; freedom from vanity, boastfulness, etc. I think that it is a great definition, but it is missing something. Modesty is not just a description for the outside of your body, but also the inside; your heart. Actually, modesty is a matter of the heart completely. Outer modesty comes from what you value and store up in your heart. You reflect God's love and reserve when you dress with modesty. When I get dressed in the morning I look in the mirror and ask myself if God would approve of what I am wearing. We should all be asking that question and we should also be asking if our heart is in the right place, so that we can let God shine through us.

Our Help and Safety in times of Trouble…
God will always be right by our side, even in the worst times. One of my favorite names that describes Jesus is omnipresent. In the dictionary that I have at home the definition is all-enveloping, which is exactly what God is. He is always around us, enveloping us in his strong arms. Psalm 121 is a cry of help and sometimes we make it our own, because we may be afraid or unsure of what is going to happen. It also assures us that God is always there for us.
This psalm starts with a question, and right away it is answered. “I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth (verses 1and 2)” The psalmist looked up toward the top of a mountain and asked who would help him. Mountains are extremely tall and can be intimidating, especially if you are at the bottom. He was answered with a wonderful response. The Lord, who made the earth (which includes mountains) and heavens, will help him.
Verses 3 and 4 are my favorite verses of this chapter. Some people think that God sleeps and that’s the reason why we have trouble in our lives. They have it all wrong! God is NEVER asleep, not matter what happens. God tests our faith, but only up to what we can handle. He will always provide a way for us to run back to him. If we fail those tests, he doesn't just throw us away, he draws us back to him in an even more real way than before.
Protection is another way of God conveying his love toward us.We don’t have to worry about anything. He watches us at night, when we sleep, and during the day, as we go about our work. We just have keep out eyes fixed on him through all trials. God will keep us from all harm. He knows exactly what we are going to do every day and he will make sure that we are safe from all fatal blows. This psalm is full of assurance of our safety along life’s dangerous road.

A Creator Like No Other...
Hiking is one of my favorite things to do during the summer/spring/autumn months. It's not about getting to the top and getting praised for going so high, but about examining Gods creation. One of my favorite things to do on the top of a mountain is to look down and take pictures of the wonderful scenery below. Looking down makes me think of how beautiful the view must be from heaven. Since God put so much beauty around us, than how much more will he put beauty into our creation.
Pink Dogwood trees line one of the streets close to mine. When the spring comes the tree blooms and then they shed the flowers later in the fall. The petals fall to the ground and cover the street and sidewalk. It looks beautiful, like an aisle ready for a bride to walk down. God has given us so many beautiful things to look at and we should be thankful for them. This year I want to be more thankful for what God has given me...

Another Year With God..
As we start the new year we should all thank God for giving us such a great year last year. I know that I have grown closer to God this past year, and all of you have helped me draw closer to him. I pray that God will give me another year to draw closer to him and to grow in my faith. God is faithful and will always be at our sides to help guide us. May he also bless you as you go on into the new year!
1 Peter 4:7-8 = "The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so
that you can pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

Inspiring verses...and an inspiring video!
Song of Songs 2: 2 = Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the maidens.
4 = He has taken me to the banquet hall, and his banner over me is love.
7 = Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you by the gazelles and by the does of
the field: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.
I was reading these verses this morning in my devotions and they blessed me. As you see, I was so blessed that I changed the name of my blog...again! I think this will be the last change, hopefully. Verses 2 and 4 tell of Gods love and verse 7 warns us against ungodly love.

A Day Of Infamy..
This is an unusual post for me to write..but I do love history! Pearl Harbor is actually one of my favorite historical events to study...
By 7:53am on December 7, 1941 the USA was under attack by the two waves of Japanese Kamikaze pilots. The attacks last till 9:45, with a massive casualty on America's side. Eighteen ship were damaged or sunk and three are destroyed, including the USS Arizona. "The casualty list includes 2,335 servicemen and 68 civilians killed, with 1,178 wounded. Included are 1,104 men aboard the Battleship USS Arizona killed after a 1,760-pound air bomb penetrated into the forward magazine causing catastrophic explosions." Except for the USS Arizona, USS Utah, and USS Oklahoma, every ship sunk or damaged on December 7th sailed again. A third attack never happened because the Japanese could not find where the carrier was where the airplanes were coming from. There were loses for planes too:188 aircraft destroyed and 155 aircraft damaged. Most planes were shot down before they could destroy any Japanese aircraft or submarines. Only a few of the american aircraft can be said to have shot down and destroyed Japanese military weapons.
One of my favorite quotes that was recorded on December 7th was one said by Admiral Yamamoto of Japan: "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant." The Japanese did wake up a "sleeping giant." because on the next day the president declared war on the empire of Japan.
(below is a movie with part of the speech).
There are many families that lost loved ones that fought bravely for the USA. I was surprised when my Biology teacher made us stand for a moment of silence at 8:30am on December 7th. In that moment I prayed for all the families and friends who lost loved ones that day. God Bless All!
